One of the main highlights of the 16-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is the opportunity to witness some of the world’s most majestic mountain peaks up close.
The trek takes you through a diverse range of landscapes, from terraced rice fields and dense rhododendron forests to alpine meadows and glacial moraines. You will cross sparkling rivers, pass through charming local villages, and experience the rich biodiversity of the Annapurna Conservation Area.
Along the trekking route, you will meet the warm and hospitable locals who belong to different ethnic groups, including Gurung, Magar, and Thakali.
As one of the most legendary and classic treks in the world, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC Trek) offers the sheer beauty of the diverse Himalayan landscape as you hike through remote villages, green rhododendron forests, valleys, and the mountain panorama of the Annapurna region. This trek reaches a maximum elevation of 4,130 m and takes you through different climates, diverse landscapes, and culturally rich villages. Experience the old traditions of the locals and soothe any aches at the hot spring in Jhinu Danda. During the trek, you will witness a beautiful sunrise over the snow-capped mountains from one of the classic viewpoints, Poon Hill.
This trek is regarded as one of the easier and more beautiful trekking options, though some steep sections will keep you challenged and engaged. You will walk around 4 to 6 hours a day and spend your evenings in small teahouses, playing cards and sharing stories with locals and your guide. The route can be completed in 10 to 12 days depending on preference, and September to May is the best time to visit Annapurna Base Camp.
Your journey begins with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by an early morning hike to Tikhedhunga. From there, you trek to Ghorepani and witness the sunrise over the Annapurna range from Poon Hill. After Ghorepani, the route leads through Tadhapani, Chomrong, and Himalaya before reaching Annapurna Base Camp itself. Your trek concludes with sightseeing around Pokhara, including Davis Falls, the Peace Stupa, boating on Phewa Lake, and the nearby caves, adding a memorable finish to your Himalayan adventure.
