The ultimate Kailash pilgrimage via Lhasa. Fly from Kathmandu to Tibet's capital for two days of acclimatization and cultural sightseeing before driving west across the plateau to Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash.
The three-day Kailash Kora covers 52 kilometers on foot, crossing Dolma La Pass at 5,645m. 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse in the Tibetan calendar, occurring once every 60 years. One kora during this year carries the spiritual merit of 13 koras. Saga Dawa Festival falls on May 31, 2026.
The Lhasa route offers better acclimatization than the overland Kerung crossing, plus full days at Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, Yamdrok Lake, and Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse. All four permits included: TTP, ATP, Military Permit, and Chinese Group Visa.
The Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Tour via Lhasa is a 15-day pilgrimage and cultural journey that begins in Kathmandu and crosses into Tibet by air. Unlike the overland route through Kerung, the Lhasa route gives you two full days in Tibet's capital for acclimatization and cultural exploration before the long drive west to the Kailash region.
The journey covers the major cultural landmarks of central Tibet: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Sera Monastery, Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, and Yamdrok Lake. From Shigatse, the route follows the G219 National Highway through Saga to Lake Mansarovar and the base of Mount Kailash at Darchen (4,670m).
The core of the trip is the three-day Kailash Kora: a 52-kilometer circumambulation on foot around the sacred mountain, crossing the Dolma La Pass at 5,645m. This is the most physically demanding section. Horse and porter support is available for those who need it.
2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse in the Tibetan calendar. This cycle occurs once every 60 years. Completing one kora of Mount Kailash during a Horse Year carries the spiritual merit of 13 koras in a regular year. The Saga Dawa Festival, celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha, falls on May 31, 2026.
