Climb Lobuche East (6,119m) from the Everest Base Camp trail. Base camp near Gorak Shep, summit ridge with fixed ropes, views of Everest, Nuptse, and Pumori. 18 days, from USD 2,175.
Lobuche East is the most technical of the standard Khumbu trekking peaks. The mixed rock and ice route demands more varied climbing skills than Island Peak's pure snow ridge. The false summit to true summit traverse is exposed and memorable.
The summit view includes Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam. The proximity to Gorak Shep means you can attempt Lobuche East and then continue to EBC and Kala Patthar on the same trip.
Base camp at 5,100m sits in a rock-strewn glacial area with Lobuche East's south face directly above. The camping is wild and isolated despite being minutes from the EBC trail teahouses.
Lobuche East Peak Climbing is an 18-day expedition that combines the Everest Base Camp trail with a summit attempt on Lobuche East (6,119m). The peak sits directly on the EBC trail near Lobuche village (4,940m), making it the most conveniently located trekking peak in the Khumbu. The climbing route involves mixed terrain: rock, snow, and ice with fixed ropes on the upper sections.
From Lobuche, base camp is established at approximately 5,100m. The summit route climbs a rock gully to a snow ridge, then follows fixed ropes to the false summit and on to the true summit at 6,119m. Summit day is 8 to 10 hours round trip from base camp.
Permits: Sagarmatha NP, Khumbu Municipality, NMA peak permit. All included.
For a higher Khumbu peak, Island Peak Climbing (6,189m, 19 days) combines with EBC. For the standard EBC trek without climbing, the Everest Base Camp Trek is 15 days (USD 1,675).
