Trip Highlights

The moments that matter most

Six days in Tibet's capital without a single day of trekking. Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Sera and Drepung Monasteries, Norbulingka Palace, and a day trip to sacred Yamdrok Lake via Kamba La Pass at 4,990m.

The itinerary is paced for acclimatization: a full rest day on arrival, then no more than two major sites per day. Suitable for seniors, families, and first-time visitors to Tibet. Mountain Hawk Trek handles all permits, visa, flights, and logistics from Kathmandu.

This is the cultural alternative to the demanding 15-day Kailash pilgrimage. Same Tibet, different experience. No camping, no kora, no fitness requirement beyond walking through monasteries and climbing palace stairs.

Trip Overview

A closer look

Tibet without the trek. The Best of Lhasa Tour is a 6-day cultural immersion in Tibet's capital and spiritual heart. No multi-day drives across the plateau, no high-altitude kora, no camping. Just Lhasa's monasteries, palaces, and markets at a comfortable pace, plus a day trip to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three sacred lakes.

Lhasa sits at 3,650m on the Tibetan Plateau. The city has been the cultural and religious center of Tibet for over 1,400 years. Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama, rises 13 stories above the valley. Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism, draws thousands of prostrating pilgrims daily. Sera and Drepung monasteries, two of the "Three Great Monasteries" of the Gelug school, are home to hundreds of monks and host centuries-old debating rituals.

The itinerary is designed for acclimatization first, sightseeing second. Day 1 is entirely rest. The major sites are spread across Days 2 through 4, with no more than two major visits per day. Day 5 is the Yamdrok Lake excursion, crossing the Kamba La Pass (4,990m) by vehicle for views of the turquoise lake and snow-capped peaks. Day 6 is departure.

This tour requires no physical fitness beyond the ability to walk through temples and climb palace stairs. It is suitable for travelers of all ages, including seniors and families with children. The altitude is the only consideration, and the itinerary accounts for it.

Mountain Hawk Trek handles all logistics from Kathmandu: Tibet Travel Permit, Chinese Group Visa, Lhasa flight booking, hotel, guide, transport, and all entrance fees.

Want to continue deeper into Tibet? Our 15-Day Kailash & Mansarovar Tour via Lhasa extends from Lhasa westward to Mount Kailash for the full pilgrimage experience. 2026 is the Fire Horse Year, making it the most significant year for the kora in six decades.
