About the Region

Where diversity
defines the trail

Nepal's most visited trekking destination, and for good reason. No other region packs such extreme diversity into a single massif: subtropical jungle, alpine meadow, arid rain-shadow desert, and 8,000m ice wall, all within a few days' walk.

The Annapurna region is Nepal's most visited trekking destination, and for good reason. No other region packs such extreme diversity into a single massif: subtropical jungle, alpine meadow, arid rain-shadow desert, and 8,000m ice wall, all within a few days' walk. The region is protected under the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), the largest conservation area in Nepal spanning over 7,629 square kilometres.

Classic Routes

  • Annapurna Base Camp Trek leads trekkers to the foot of the world's tenth highest peak through rhododendron forests and terraced hillside villages.
  • Annapurna Circuit is one of the greatest long-distance treks on the planet, crossing the 5,416m Thorong La Pass and dropping into the arid Mustang valley.
  • Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek offers world-class sunrise panoramas over the entire Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in under a week.
  • Mardi Himal Trek is a quieter alternative with stunning ridge-line walking and close-up views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
  • Tilicho Lake Trek reaches one of the highest lakes in the world at 4,919m, set beneath the massive north wall of the Annapurna range.

Off the Beaten Path

Beyond the classic routes, the region hides gems that few visitors ever reach:

  • Nar Phu Valley is a restricted-area trek through a Tibetan Buddhist enclave with ancient monasteries and dramatic canyon landscapes.
  • Khopra Danda ridge offers sunrise views over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and the sacred Khayer Lake.
  • Dhaulagiri Circuit is one of Nepal's most demanding treks, crossing a remote 5,360m pass with glacier travel and full camping support.

What to Expect

The Annapurna region is home to the Gurung and Magar communities, whose warm hospitality defines the teahouse trekking experience. Villages like Ghandruk, Chhomrong, Manang, and Muktinath offer cultural immersion alongside the mountain scenery. The region's biodiversity is remarkable: over 1,200 species of flowering plants, 38 species of orchids, and wildlife including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan Thar, and the national bird, the Danphe.
