Trail conditions in November
Perfect walking conditions. Dry trail, firm ground, no snow below the Sanctuary until the very end of the month in most years. The morning light gets better as the month goes on, because the low sun angle throws the ridgelines into relief in a way the high October sun does not.
The valley colour changes noticeably. The rice terraces below Chhomrong that were vivid green in September are cut and gold by November, and the forest thins out. The trek looks like a different route from the one a September trekker walked, over the same ground.
Late November can bring the first real snow to the Sanctuary. It usually melts back within days, but it is the first sign that the winter pattern is beginning, and a late-November group should carry microspikes as insurance rather than assume bare trail.
