Pashupatinath, Boudhanath & Beyond
KathmanduAfter breakfast, take the short drive to Pashupatinath. The two-storied pagoda of Pashupatinath houses a sacred lingam (the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva). The Arya Ghat alongside Pashupatinath and on the banks of the Bagmati River is a famous Hindu funeral site. After a few hours exploring the complex, take a short drive to Boudhanath. The Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world and one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist destinations in Kathmandu. The area is also famous for over 50 Tibetan gompas (monasteries) built by ancient Tibetan merchants and, more recently, by Tibetan refugees.
