Is the approach road hardest in July?

Yes. Rainfall on the Arughat to Machha Khola jeep track peaks in July, and a landslide costing a day or more is a real possibility, more likely here than in any other month.

Is Larkya La crossable in July?

Yes, at its warmest and least snowy point of the year. Cloud blocking the view from the top is the main concern, not conditions underfoot.

Are there leeches below Deng in July?

Throughout the monsoon, yes, in the forest under roughly 1,900m. Elevation and drier air largely solve the problem once you are past Namrung.

How wet does Samagaon get in July?

Far less than the lower gorge. Rain tapers with elevation, and Samagaon and Lho see clear mornings reasonably often even during peak monsoon.

Should a July itinerary carry spare days?

Yes, at the front rather than the end. The road to the trailhead carries the real risk in July, and a buffer banked before trekking begins protects the crossing schedule from a landslide delay on the way in.

Rain in July falls hardest overnight and into the morning down in the gorge, leaving a workable stretch most afternoons even in the wettest month on the route. Namrung and Lho catch noticeably less of it than Machha Khola and Jagat do, and Larkya La runs at its warmest point of the year, considerably milder than an October morning.

The gorge is loud, green and soaked in July. Waterfalls that barely trickle by October run full, the forest between Machha Khola and Deng drips constantly, and leeches are a given below roughly 1,900m.

Push on past Namrung and the payoff shows up. Rain eases with elevation, Lho often catches a clear view of Manaslu's north face even after an overnight downpour, and Samagaon in midsummer, glacier views and near-empty dining rooms, is one of this trek's better-kept secrets.

Crossing the pass asks little of you in July beyond patience with cloud: no snow, mild air, and a standard length day, with poor visibility from the top a more likely complaint than the cold.

Trail traffic is minimal. Lower lodges operate on a family basis with few guests, Samagaon keeps several teahouses running, and Dharamsala's two guesthouses generally stay open on light traffic, worth confirming with your agency ahead of time.
