Manaslu Circuit, the year at a glance

Only October rates higher than April on this circuit. Larkya La sheds its winter snow and opens up to nearly any settled morning, the permit stays at the cheaper off-season rate, and the lower gorge below Deng carries rhododendron at full bloom. Jagat through Samagaon see their heaviest traffic of the whole calendar, though the trail still falls well short of what busier Nepal routes would call crowded.

Weather by altitude

April temperatures, valley to high camp

WaypointElevation Day Night
Namrung2,630m17 to 22°C2 to 6°C
Samagaon3,530m12 to 17°C-3 to 1°C
Dharamsala4,460m6 to 11°C-9 to -5°C
Larkya La5,106m2 to 7°C-14 to -9°C

No month treats every altitude on this route as gently as April does. Dharamsala still sends groups out into real cold before dawn, but that is nothing like the deep negatives of midwinter, and the drop to Bimtang runs on dry, snow-free ground. Pre-monsoon heat starts building cloud over the lower and middle gorge through the afternoons, though it typically burns off again by evening and rarely disrupts the day's walking.

Trail conditions in April

April is where this trek runs at its smoothest. Machha Khola to Jagat is warm and lush, Namrung's villages generally sit under open sky, and Lho's outlook onto Manaslu's north face performs about as reliably as it ever does.

Samagaon shows its best side this month. An hour's walk with roughly 120m of gain gets you to Birendra Lake, which mirrors Manaslu's summit best in the calm of early morning before any breeze picks up, turning the acclimatisation day into a genuine draw rather than a chore.

Crossing the pass demands endurance more than skill in April: about 650m up from Dharamsala across 4 to 5 hours, then nearly 1,400m back down to Bimtang over another 3 to 4, with weather odds beaten only by October.

Crowds & teahouses

Who else is up there

The lower and middle sections see their heaviest traffic of the year in April, and it still stays modest against a route that logged 12,512 foreign trekkers across the whole 2024/25 season. Samagaon and Namrung fill their dining rooms with real energy. Dharamsala is the exception: its two guesthouses handle everyone crossing the following morning, and a group without a confirmed reservation there risks a dorm bed instead of a private room.

Getting in & out

Flights, roads and logistics

The Kathmandu to Machha Khola jeep sees its heaviest spring demand this month, so a few days' advance booking is worth the trouble. Nothing about the road itself gives April any difficulty; it is simply the busiest stretch of the calendar to arrange transport.

Permits close. Weather windows narrow. The best Everest region teahouse beds fill by October, and spring season opens again in March. Our Kathmandu team is already booking for autumn. If you have been planning a trek, this is the window.
