Trail conditions in February
The Budhi Gandaki side holds its winter form well through February: frozen trail, quiet lodges, and Manaslu's north face standing sharp above Lho most mornings. The Jagat to Deng stretch, a slow slog once the rains hit, is simply cold, firm walking now.
Snow depth toward Dharamsala hits its yearly maximum in February, and the final push to the pass calls for microspikes at a minimum. Bimtang's descent, ordinary scree the rest of the year, is snow-covered scree here, and that is the section that actually eats into the day's schedule.
What separates a good February crossing from a bad one is patience, not equipment. Three or four days of settled high pressure show up fairly often by mid-month, and a group able to wait for one crosses in reasonable shape. A group locked to a fixed date takes whatever the sky gives it.
