Manaslu Circuit Trek in October

This is about as good as the trek gets. Dry ground from Machha Khola to Dharapani, no snow on the pass in a typical year, and Manaslu's north face from Lho sharp enough at dawn to make out individual seracs on the glacier.

The pass day asks for stamina rather than skill: leave Dharamsala around 3 or 4am, spend 4 to 5 hours reaching the prayer flags at 5,106m, then descend toward Bimtang. What sticks with most people afterward is the sight of Himlung Himal and Cheo Himal from the top, not the climb itself.

The 2025 closure is worth remembering even in a reliable month. A guide prepared to hold a group at Samagaon or Samdo rather than push toward a fixed date matters more here than almost anywhere in Nepal, since Larkya La offers no shelter and no way around once you have committed.

This is the busiest stretch of the year for the route, though it stays modest against Nepal's larger treks: the whole circuit saw 12,512 foreign trekkers across the 2024/25 season, against roughly 250,000 in the Annapurna region over the same period. The genuine pinch point is Dharamsala, where two guesthouses cover every group crossing the next day and dorm arrangements become standard once 20 to 30 trekkers land on the same night.

Roads sit in their best post-monsoon shape and demand for the Kathmandu to Machha Khola jeep peaks for the year. Reserve several days out, especially around Dashain or Tihar, when both vehicles and staff come under extra strain.
