Manaslu Circuit Trek in March

Spring reaches the trail below Jagat first. New growth appears along the Budhi Gandaki and the earliest rhododendron flowers show up in the lower gorge, somewhere between Machha Khola and Deng, from roughly the third week onward.

Namrung and Lho are hard to beat in March. The carved stone gate at Namrung, the last one you will pass before the buildings turn fully Tibetan, usually stands under clear sky, and Manaslu's north face across from Lho's monastery shows up sharp most mornings.

The real transformation happens on the pass. Snow pulls back off the Dharamsala approach through the month, the Larkya La ramp stops functioning as a snow crossing by the final week, and Bimtang's descent returns to plain loose scree. Time it right and a late-March crossing runs close to ideal, all while the permit still sits at its off-season rate.

Numbers rise gradually through March without the trail ever feeling packed. Jagat, Deng and Namrung fill back out after winter's lull, and Samagaon settles into normal spring operations by mid-month. Dharamsala comes back fully around the same time, its two guesthouses shifting from a winter question mark to standard running order.

Dry roads persist through March and vehicle traffic picks up mildly as spring departures start. The jeep between Kathmandu and Machha Khola runs without trouble all month, though booking a day ahead becomes worthwhile from mid-month as agencies fill out their spring calendars.
