Trail conditions in August
Conditions carry over from July: slick staircases, busy streams, leeches in the low forest and a green intensity that peaks this month as pastures reach full growth. Trail traffic remains a trickle, so route-sharing frictions do not exist; your main negotiations are with the sky and the flight board.
August is also festival season in the high valleys. Yak-herder celebrations and village rites fall in this window, and monasteries mark the summer’s religious calendar. Trekkers who time a rest day to a village festival see the Khumbu performing for itself rather than for tourism, which no October itinerary can buy.
