Trail conditions in December
The lower half of the route is excellent in December. Dry forest, no crowds, clear air, and afternoon temperatures at Syabrubesi that reach the high teens. The bare canopy gives the best sightlines of the year through the trees.
Above Ghodatabela the month divides. Walk the first two weeks and you will usually find bare trail to Kyanjin Gompa with ice in the shaded sections. Walk after the 20th and plan for snow on the upper valley, a slower final day, and the high hikes becoming a winter proposition rather than an afternoon out.
Tserko Ri in late December is cold and serious. The Kyanjin Ri viewpoints at 4,400m and 4,700m are the sensible substitutes and give most of the same view of Langtang Lirung.
