Trail conditions in December
The Marsyangdi side is at its winter best: dry, frozen, empty, and clear. The Ghyaru high route on a still December morning, with almost nobody else on it, is one of the better mornings available in Nepal in midwinter.
The pass through the first two weeks is usually crossable with winter kit and a settled forecast. From around the 20th, accumulating snow on the approach and the ramp above High Camp makes it progressively harder, and the calculation starts resembling January.
Short daylight compounds it. A crossing that takes eight to ten hours from a 4am start is fine in October and tight in late December, when usable light is gone by mid-afternoon and the long descent to Muktinath has to be finished before dark.
