Overview

Pisang Peak is on the way to one of the highest passes of the world. One of the most popular trekking peaks in the Annapurna region of Nepal offers a wide scope for exploring the surrounding environments from a high altitude. The striking feature of this peak is its western flank of the mountain, as it is guarded by the hanging glacier which poses a challenge to the climbers. The very end of this western ridge has huge rock slabs which make it extremely difficult to climb. In spite of these odds a German expedition set a benchmark by scaling this peak for the maiden time in 1955 and since then has been followed by numerous individuals and groups. This spectacular peak rises above from Pisang village and yak pastures in line with the slope of ice and snow transforming it into a pyramid climb.

The journey to Pisang Peak leads us from Kathmandu to Besisahar. Once we reach this picturesque place the actual trek starts through the regular common path of the Annapurna Circuit. From Pisang village the route ascends through sparse wood and a pasture at Kharka at an altitude of (4,380m), an ideal and suitable place for setting up a base camp. A high camp is set up at an altitude of (5,400m) on to the south- west ridge. This end remains entirely submerged under snow cover from the end of November till the end of March. Moving on from here we ascend with a bit of difficulty and manage to reach the summit of this peak. Once we are up on this summit we are greeted by splendid views of the Annapurna II and IV, Ghangapurna, and the Glacial Dome. After achieving a successful summit climb, we trek back down to the Manang Valley straight into the Thorong Phedi. This is the point from where we attempt to cross the highest pass in the world the Thorong pass at the onset of dawn and arrive at the holy place of Muktinath. We then descend further down through lovely Jharkot village, Kagbeni, a gateway to Upper Mustang and ideally reach Jomsom and reach as far as Kaligandaki River and take a flight back to Pokhara and then return back to Kathmandu which concludes our adventurous journey to Pisang Peak.

Pisang Peak itinerary can be combined with the popular Annapurna Circuit trek to derive the most out of an extravagant adventure to this region to have a perfect taste of climbing the Himalayas in Nepal. A journey of immense satisfaction and pride.
