A complete trekking of Annapurna region is undoubtedly one of the most popular Treks in Nepal, yet it is also the controversial. Some people refer to this route as a ‘highway’ because of the large number of tourists one encounters during the peak season from March to May and September to November.
Unfortunately the critics are justified. However, it would be a pity to forfeit the joys of walking and discovering some of the country’s highest and most spectacular mountains- the Annapurnas, Lamjung Manaslu, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhare (Fishtail) are just some of the peaks the itinerary attempts to cover. The trail also goes through diverse terrain, from the subtropical forests of the lower Marsyangdi to the dry valleys of the Muatang, from the thorung La to the meandering Kali Gandaki .
The culture shock is equally impressive. Nepal is a mosaic of people and you will meet Brahmans, Tamangs, Gurungs, Thakalis, Magars, and of course Tibetans, who have all settled in the shadow of Annapurna. Most of the inhabitants life still pretty tough, yet smiles are genuine and devoid of any materialistic motives.
