One of the two Korean climbers who went missing in the Himalayas has been found dead, The Korea Times reported on 28 April. Two Korean climbers had gone missing following an accident due to bad weather conditions, Korean Foreign ministry had said on 26 April.
“The expedition led by Kim Hong-bin ended tragically while he and his crew were descending Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain in the world,” the ministry said in a statement. Kim and three others have been taken to a hospital in Kathmandu.
A Nepalese search team aboard a helicopter found the body and took a picture of it, a ministry official said. They cannot confirm who the dead person is at the moment as it will take a day at least to identify the body, the official said.
The discovery of the body came a day after two South Korean climbers, Yoon Chi-won, 40 and Park Haeng-soo, 27, went missing, while descending from a Himalayan peak. The two were members of a six-man expedition team from the state-run Korea Expressway Corp.
Four others, including Kim Hong-bin, the leader of the team, managed to return to a base camp, the ministry said.
